FAQs on Pigmentation Removal

Q. Is there any down time?

A. Yes. After the treatments there will be slight redness for up to 24 hours. After that there may be what is called ‘crusting’. This is a flat dark brown mark to the area where the pigmentation was. It will take up to 2 weeks to sloth off. One may apply a powder foundation after 3 days to hide the marks.

Q. How many treatments will I need?

A. It really all depends on the type and depth of the pigment. Most people will notice a 50% reduction in colour just after one treatment! Most people need 2-3 to achieve the results they wanted. However it is still very individual and one may need more.

Q. Will my skin scar?

A. The laser cannot cause permanent scaring, as it doesn’t cause injury to the Dermis layer of the skin. Any pigmentation or burns caused during treatment are superficial and will disappear with time.

Q. Does the treatment affect me if I am on medication?

A. There are only a few medications that can affect the treatment. The most common are Roaccutane and Retin-A. These 2 medications can cause pigmentation to occur in the skin during treatment. So it is advised to start treatment 2 months after the use of these medications.

Q. Are there any lotions or ointments I need to use after the treatment?

A. We do request that our Sea buckthorn serum is applied morning and night to the treated area for 2 weeks to ensure rapid and maximum healing. Once the pigmentation is removed we highly recommend our pigmentation suppressing medical grade skincare range and 30SPF sun block. Even thought the pigment is removed, it is up to the individual to prevent new pigment occurring.

Q. When is the best time to have my treatments?

A. We do recommend that pigmentation removal is only done during the autumn and winter periods. One needs to have the area out of the sun for 2-4 weeks before treatment and for at least 1-2 months post treatment. This is so that the skin has time to heal and strengthen before being exposed to a high level of U.V exposure.
